My guide to a weekend in Brisbane

My guide to a weekend in Brisbane

Visiting Brisbane? Here’s my guide on how to experience Brisbane for the weekend

A NIGHT IN BRISBANE

Need a winter escape? Why not visit Brisbane for a weekend vacation. There’s so much happening this July that you need to experience. My weekend stay-cation in my hometown was so much fun and something you can do with the friends or that special someone you love. From shopping in Queensplaza with Australian & International Designer brands to indulging at Brisbane’s unique The Johnson Hotel. And experiencing a once in a life time performance with the Bolshoi Ballet at QPAC. Brisbane has you covered for a magical short stay. Let me show you how to plan the perfect Brisbane weekend experience.

Book a stay at The Johnson Hotel

When planning your short-stay in Brisbane this winter I recommend The Johnson Hotel. This is my second stay here and it did not disappoint. What makes this Hotel a unique experience in Brisbane is the artwork and design of this hotel. The Johnson is apart of the the Art Series Hotels. This very special collection of hotels creates hotels with Australian artists. The Johnson came together in collaboration with Michael Johnson. Michael Johnson is a renowned Australian Artist from Sydney. So when you check in you will see a collection of his art works in the lobby, elevators and your room. It’s quite a unique experience as when you enter your room Michael Johnson’s art is hung on the walls to give you an immersive stay.

This stay we checked in the Sub Penthouse which is perfect for those who love spacious accommodation. It was equipped with a kitchen, laundrette, two bedrooms and three bathrooms. Oh and did I mention the full length balcony that stretched the length of the room? The view was absolutely breathtaking!

Get a outfit from Queensplaza

When in Brisbane you must visit Queensplaza. It’s not far from The Johnson at all just a 13 minute work or 5 minute drive. If you walk it’s the perfect way to enjoy Brisbane city. Queensplaza’s recently went through a renovation and is a must visit shopping destination. Especially when it comes to International and Australian designer fashion. For my look for the ballet I wanted to feel comfortable and stylish. So I headed to level 1 in Queensplaza to chose an outfit. This level is dedicated to Australian Designers such as Zimmermann, Scanlan and Theodore and Camilla to name a few. I chose my outfit from Australian fashion label Viktoria and Woods. Their approach to fashion is effortless and modern. Their in-store stylists are so friendly and helpful Jacob and Rosie will definitely help you find that must have piece.

Before I went down a level I headed to the Stanton, the new restaurant with a gorgeous view of Queens St mall. It’s perfect for a quick coffee or even lunch, it’s a must visit spot in Queensplaza. Trust me you’ll love it! Then I headed down a level where International Designer to pick up my bag for the night from Bulgari. This final touched completed my entire outfit.

MY FINAL LOOK

  • Top and Pant from Viktoria and Woods (visit the boutique on Level 1)
  • Serpenti Cabochon shoulder bag from Bulgari (visit the boutique on Ground)
  • Jewellery from Kitte (available at David Jones Level 1)

Time for the Bolshoi Ballet

Now it’s time to head to Queensland Performing Arts Centre to see the Bolshoi Ballet. The QPAC always has a great schedule of shows for you to chose from which you can see here. It’s only a short 8 minute ride from The Johnson. The Bolshoi Ballet we swear was absolutely dazzling! Their performance of Jewels was incredible and something not to be missed. When you are at QPAC before your performance you can walk around and take in the beauty of Southbank. There’s plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars to keep you occupied. A few of my recommendations would be Ole and Popolo for a good feed. If you want a quick drink before your show you can go to the QPAC’s Russell Street Wine Bar or check out the roof top bar views at Emporium’s Terrace Bar.

I hope you enjoyed my guide to a fun night out in Brisbane. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
