3 Ways to Rock the Necktie Trend
Accessories are like the icing on the cake in every good wardrobe. They can elevate a look by dressing up a basic outfit, or show that your ensemble is ready for casual daytime activities. When it comes to accessories, we typically think of jewellery, shoes, handbags and other common pieces. However, often overlooked is the softer addition that has the ability to make your look pop for winter—the necktie scarf. Below you’ll find tips on how to incorporate this silky accessory while following the hottest trends from the runways for fall/winter 2016.
Whether short and wide or long and skinny, the neck scarf has been a big hit on the runways from some of fashion’s top designers. Perfect for the office tied neatly around a turtleneck, or draped loosely around the neckline of a plunging little black dress, this piece is highly versatile. And in this piece, I’m going to share a few of my favourite ways to wear and style this must-have accessory.
Trail Blazer
Blazers and long coats are perfect winter wardrobe staples, and they’re back in a big way. Whether oversized and slouchy, or tailored and chic, these are ideal complements to the high end look of a neck scarf.
Lyst is highlighting some luxurious outerwear here that will blend seamlessly with the season’s most sought-after looks and I especially like the idea of pairing a winter white midi length piece with a boldly patterned necktie. Team this duo with suede booties or heels for an ensemble that’s sophisticated and elegant.
Retro Redux
Throwback fashion from the 1970s has been popping up all over the runways, and the necktie scarf is a definite blast from the past. If you want to rock the winter 2016 trends that Huffington Post points out, such as bell sleeves, ruffles, and flared trousers, then do so with the added accessory that will complete the look. Whether it’s a simple knot or a dramatic, oversized bow, a neck scarf is super ‘70s chic and a look that I highly recommend this season. For an ultra-stylish ensemble, try a pair of trendy cropped flared trousers, a ruffle embellished blouse, sock boots, and a coordinating silk scarf.
Pattern Play
Another trend sweeping the runways is a print lover’s dream come true. Heavy texture and pattern play per Fashion Weekly is hot this season and what better way to have a little fun than by pairing bold, unexpected pieces with one another. One of my favourite looks would be a sharp black and white geo pant, striped blouse, and colourful floral print necktie scarf. This works thanks to the simplicity of the black and white, crisp patterns, and judicial use of colour. Stick with jewel tones in the neck piece to keep with the feeling of winter and coordinate those with any other hues you may wish to incorporate into the outfit. A pair of laser-cut peep toe suede heels in black would be a fine finishing touch.
I sincerely hope you’ve enjoyed delving into the trendy and fashionable, yet totally wearable looks that coordinate so beautifully with the necktie scarf. Silky accessories don’t have to be relegated to spring and summer, which has been so smartly demonstrated here. Remember to stick with jewel tones, bold geo prints, textures, and the proper outerwear and period styling to really capture the essence of the season and highlight the necktie scarf for ensembles that are very wintertime chic.
